NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team finished sixth in the College Gymnastics Association academic team championship. The Sooners' team GPA of 3.083 placed them behind academic national champion Iowa, William and Mary, Massachusetts, MIT and Michigan. Nebraska, Minnesota, California and Air Force rounded out the top 10. Fifty-four athletes earned CGA Academic All-America honors including OU's David Johnston (3.89, finance), Huy Ly (3.76, zoology, pre-med) and Robby Rome (3.50, management).

Johnston, an All-American on the still rings, is earning the honor for the second-consecutive season. He tied the school record on the still rings earlier this season and set career highs on the pommel horse, vault parallel bars and all-around. Ly was a finalist for the Emery-Nissen Award and was one of three team captains. He set career highs on the floor exercise, pommel horse and vault. Also a team captain, Rome ended the season ranked first nationally on the horizontal bar. He also claimed the conference championship on the horizontal bar.

To earn Academic All-America status a gymnast must attain at least a 3.50 GPA and a minimum NCAA gymnastics score of 8.50 during the 1999-2000 academic year.
