NORMAN, Okla. - Three University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts, Daniel Furney, Steve Van Etten and Jock Stevens, will compete in the senior division John Hancock U.S. Gymnastics Championships July 26-29, in St. Louis. A fourth Sooner, John Goodwin, will compete in the junior division.

One of the qualifying steps for the U.S. Olympic team, the senior division championships will be held on July 26 and 28. Scores from the competition will constitute 40 percent of the criteria for qualifying for the Olympic games with the other 60 percent coming from the U.S. Olympic Trials held in Boston, August 17-20. A total of 40 athletes will participate in the championships, 14 of which will qualify for the Trials. In the junior division, 20 athletes will compete with seven earning a spot on the junior national team.

"It's a tremendous accomplishment to even make it toward the first step of the Olympic selection process," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "I think Oklahoma can be very proud to have three representatives in the men's competition."
