NORMAN, Okla. - Three University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts -- Jock Stevens, Daniel Furney and Steve Van Etten -- have qualified for the John Hancock U.S. Gymnastics Championships to be held July 26-29 in St. Louis, Mo.

Stevens (52.05) and Furney (51.05) both qualified in the all-around, placing eighth and 12th, respectively. Van Etten advanced in five events and was the only gymnast to qualify with a five-score total. He did not compete in the still rings. Van Etten, a two-time All-American, will be a senior and Furney will be a sophomore for the Sooners next season. Stevens will join the team as a freshman this fall.

"It was great to get three guys in the U.S. Championships," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "Making the Olympic team this year may not be realistic, but these guys are on the right track to qualify for the 2001 World Championships and working towards qualifying for the next Olympic games in 2004."
