NORMAN, Okla. - Seven University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts will compete in the U.S. National Qualifier this weekend in Santa Barbara, Calif. The top 16 gymnasts at the meet will qualify for the John Hancock U.S. Gymnastics Championships to be held July 26-29, in St. Louis, Mo. At the U.S. Championships, gymnasts will compete for the right to advance to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Boston, Mass. Those competing from OU include All-Americans Steve Van Etten, Josh Landis, Brendan O'Neil and David Johnston. Other Sooners at the event include Daniel Furney, Shannon Carrion and Everette Bierker. In February, Furney advanced to the all-around finals of the Winter Cup, a qualifying tournament for the U.S. Championships. John Goodwin, a Sooner signee who will join the team this fall, has already qualified for the U.S. Championships in the Class I division. Jock Stevens, another OU signee, will compete a the qualifier for Senior Elite position.
