NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's winningest starting pitcher last season, Austin Mix, captured his second freshman All-America honor today as Baseball America announced its 2000 Freshman All-America team. The national publication named Mix as one of four starting pitchers on the first team after the Coppell, Texas, native completed the season with a 10-2 record and a 4.92 ERA, including 95 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched. Mix was also honored with first-team All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball earlier this month and became the first OU player to be named a Freshman All-American since Rick Park in 1997.
A second-team All-Big 12 selection, Mix led the 41-23 Sooners in wins, innings pitched, starts (15) and strikeouts, while also appearing among the Big 12 Conference leaders in wins (sixth), strikeouts (sixth), opponent's batting average (ninth) and innings pitched (ninth) . Mix's 10 wins tied former OU standout Bobby Witt (1984) for most wins by a freshman in school history.
