OU Edges OSU To Win Big 12 Women's Golf Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team claimed its fourth-ever conference title today in Lubbock, Texas, as the Sooners turned in a 317 to end the three-day event at 916 (+52) and win the 2000 Big 12 Women's Golf Tournament.
OU, which entered the tournament ranked 26th in the latest Mastercard Rankings, defeated seventh-ranked Oklahoma State by a single shot as the Cowgirls finished at 917 (+53). The win marked the third for Head Coach Carol Ludvigson, her second as a coach. Ludvigson also led OU to the conference crown in 1991 and earned another title as a player in 1981.
After finishing tied for 45th a season ago, sophomore Jennifer James took runner-up honors with a 223 (+7).
The Edmond, Okla., native used the lowest three-round score of her career to earn her highest finish as a Sooner. Sophomore Wendy Martin tied Oklahoma State's Maria Boden for sixth as the two ended at 11-over-par (227).
Jennifer Tannehill and Betsy Berry tied two others for 21st at 235 (+19). Rounding out the list of Sooners was senior Jaime Dello-Russo who finished in 44th with 244 strokes (+28).
The win gives OU its first trip to the NCAA Regionals since 1995. OU will play in the NCAA West Regionals, May 11-13, which are set to be held in Tempe, Ariz.
