OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Oklahoma baseball team completed a three-game sweep of intrastate rival Oklahoma State with a 7-5 victory over the Cowboys in front of 7,916 Sunday afternoon at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The sweep was the Sooners' first full-series regular season sweep of the Cowboys since the 1976 season. OU won both regular season games between the two teams in 1984 before the final game was rained out. Oklahoma, which has won 14 of its last 15 games, improved to 31-15 on the season and 14-7 in the Big 12 Conference with the win. Oklahoma State fell to 27-17 overall and 9-12 in the conference with their third straight loss.

Shortstop Tommy Whiteman was the Sooners' offensive hero of the ballgame as the sophomore went 4-for-4 at the plate, falling a home run shy of hitting of the cycle. Whiteman nailed two doubles and scored three runs on the afternoon while driving in one. Whiteman also extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru contributed offensively by belting a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a 2-for-4 day with a run scored and two RBIs. Austin Coose improved his pitching record to 4-5 after working five shutout innings in relief before yielding to Bajenaru, who closed out the final 1.2 innings to pick up his third save of the series and 15th of the year.

First baseman Rick Park (1-for-3) once again helped propel the Sooners offensively by driving in two of OU's first four runs. Park, who went 4-for-9 at the plate in the series with two runs scored and five RBIs, landed a sacrifice fly to score centerfielder Jerome Godsey (1-for-3) and put Oklahoma on the board in the first inning. The Norman, Okla., native followed with an RBI single in his next at bat to score Whiteman and tie the game at four after the Cowboys had pulled ahead in the top of the inning.

OSU rightfielder Jimbo McAuliff highlighted the Cowboys' offensive attack with a 3-for-5 performance, including a run scored and four RBIs. Reliever Quenten Patterson (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the Sooners to break a four-all tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Oklahoma returns to the ballpark in Oklahoma City on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against No. 3 Arizona State.
