OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oklahoma first baseman Rick Park belted a solo home run and added an RBI single to propel the Sooner baseball team to a 3-1 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys Saturday afternoon in front of a 12,300 sellout crowd at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The home run was Park's second in as many days against OSU and his third round-tripper of the week. OU starting pitcher Austin Mix improved to 9-1 overall for the Sooners (30-15, 13-7 Big 12), while opposing starter, Matt Smith, dropped to 5-6 on the season for OSU (27-16, 9-11 Big 12). Jeff Bajenaru closed out the final 1.1 innings to pick up his 14th save of the season, which ties the school's single season saves record.
Park led off the fourth inning with a solo homer, his 12th on the season, to put Oklahoma on the board with a 1-0 lead. The senior co-captain then followed the next inning with a RBI single to drive in second baseman Zach Lekse from second base. Park finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
After the Cowboys scored at the top of the eighth inning to pull within one, pinch hitter Chad Cochell (1-for-1) singled home leftfielder Sean Murphy (2-for-3) which provided an insurance run heading into the top of the ninth.
Mix pitched a three-hit shutout over seven complete innings to rack up his fifth-consecutive victory. The freshman hurler used four of his eight strikeouts to close out four innings with Cowboys in scoring position.
The Bedlam series concludes tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
