Baseball Splits With No. 3 Texas

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma baseball team defeated No. 3 Texas, 11-7, in the second game of a baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners (18-14, 6-6 Big 12) were run-ruled, 18-5, by the Longhorns (29-6, 14-3 Big 12) after seven innings in the first game.

First baseman Rick Park led the Sooner offensive attack in the second game by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Park finished the day 5-for-8 with three runs scored and four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the first game. Zach Lekse stretched his career-high hitting streak to 13 games as the senior shortstop went 3-for-8 with two runs scored and three RBIs over the two games.

OU starting pitcher Austin Mix improved to 6-1 on the season after picking up the win in the second game, his third win on the year against a Top 25 team. With the win, Mix became the first Oklahoma freshman starting pitcher to register six wins in a season under head coach Larry Cochell since Jeff Andra in 1995.

Austin Coose (3-5) suffered the loss for the Sooners in the first game after surrendering seven runs on five hits through six innings of work.

Oklahoma dropped the first game of the doubleheader to Texas after the Longhorns, leading 7-5, scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh to win by the 10-run rule. Rightfielder Matt Rosenberg paced the Longhorns on the afternoon going 4-for-10 at the plate with five runs scored and four RBIs. Righthander Beau Hale improved to 7-2 on the year by capturing the win in the first game, as Ryan France's season record fell to 2-1 after being charged with the loss in the second game.

The Sooners will wrap up a suspended game with TCU at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park before playing their regularly scheduled contest 20 minutes following the conclusion of the make-up game. Tuesday is Family Night at the ballpark, including $.50 Bar-S hotdogs and Cokes at the concession stands.
