NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma first baseman Rick Park drove in two runs and scored two more in leading the Sooners to a 12-9 victory over McNeese State Wednesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Park (4-for-5) led OU offensively for the second straight night, finishing the two-game series 8-for-11 with three runs scored and seven RBIs. Oklahoma improved to 28-15 on the season with their second win over the Cowboys (32-15) in as many days.
Clint Dunbar (1-3) picked up his first collegiate win coming on in relief of OU starting pitcher Jeff Wigington, while Jeff Bajenaru closed out the ninth inning for his 12th save. Every hitter in the starting lineup but one got a hit in the game, including five multi-hit performances. Bajenaru (3-for-5) collected two of his three RBIs in the Sooners' nine-run third inning as leftfielder Sean Murphy added three more RBIs in the inning on a three-run homer, his sixth of the season. Shortstop Tommy Whiteman extended his hitting streak to 14-straight games with a 1-for-3 effort, including two runs scored and one RBI.
McNeese State starting pitcher Mike Fleniken (3-3) suffered the loss for the Cowboys after lasting only 2.2 innings and giving up four earned runs. Designated hitter David Montiel paced the Cowboys offensively with a 3-for-4 performance, including a run scored and one RBI.
The Sooners take on their second group of Cowboys this week when they battle Oklahoma State in the annual Bedlam Series beginning this Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Driller's Stadium in Tulsa.
