NORMAN, Okla. - After heading into the final day of competition at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a 13-stroke advantage over the University of Oklahoma women's golf team, Nebraska extended its lead to outdistance the Sooners and claim the team title by shooting a 930 (+66) at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course today. OU turned in a final round 313 to finish as the runner up with 950 stokes (+86). It marked the first time since 1994 the Sooners did not win the team title.

"We did see some good things, especially from Jennifer James and Jaime Dello-Russo, she fought back to end with a birdie," said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. "With the conditions the way they were, Nebraska played great. When we made the turn there was to much room to make up. At that point we were just trying to make sure we came in second, which I'm happy about. As a whole, we've got a lot of things to work on around the green and with our putting."

The Sooners were led by James, who tied her career best effort during the final round with a 73 to finish fifth (232, +16). Wendy Martin and Dello-Russo also posted top-10 finishes as they tied for ninth with two others at 236 (+20). Martin added a 78 to her total after turning in back-to-back scores of 79 yesterday, while Dello-Russo shot a closing round 77 to finish the tournament with seven birdies. Allison Johnson shot an 86 to finish tied for 38th at 247 (+31). Johnson collected six birdies throughout the two-day tournament, which added to the Sooners' tournament-leading 24. Kellie Jamison rounded out the list of OU scorers with an 85 in order to tie for 48th (251, +35). Competing as an individual Jennifer Tannehill had a repeat performance from last year's classic as she finished tied for third on both occasions. Tannehill fired a career-best 73 to end the tournament at 231 (+15). Also competing as individuals were Betsy Berry, Isabelle Blais and Marsha Gonzaga, who finished tied for 17th (240, +24), 32nd (245, +29) and 48th (251, +35), respectively.

OU will cross the Red River April 21-23 when it travels to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships. Last year at the event, Martin recorded the best-ever finish by a Sooner in the tournament as she placed second with 219 strokes.
