COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team followed its conference team title by claiming three individual event crowns at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at Colorado Springs, Colo., tonight. In addition, OU Head Coach Mark Williams was named MPSF Coach of the Year.
Freshman Daniel Furney claimed the conference championship on the pommel horse, breaking the OU record on the event for the second time in as many days. Also setting a career high on his way to a title was sophomore Everette Bierker, who scored a 9.80 on the parallel bars. The third Sooner to win a conference crown was senior Robby Rome on the horizontal. Rome posted a 9.75 on the high bar. Sophomore David Johnston finished second on the still rings (9.875) and freshman Shannon Carrion place third on the vault (9.60).
The Sooners return to action March 31, when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the NCAA qualifier.
