Oklahoma Defeats Oral Roberts To Win Tournament

Houston, Texas - The Sooner offense exploded for 15 runs on 13 hits as the University of Oklahoma baseball team defeated Oral Roberts, 15-2, Sunday afternoon to win the Hilton Plaza Houston Tournament with their third straight victory of the event. Catcher Chris Haggard paced OU at the plate by hitting 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, including a two-run home run, in his first start of the season. Oklahoma also picked up solid pitching from starter Austin Coose (2-1) who worked six innings and gave up only one run, while scattering six hits. The Sooners improve to 6-2 on the year and the Golden Eagles fall to 4-3.

After falling behind ORU 1-0 on a solo home run by rightfielder Ryan Neill to lead off the second inning, OU jumped ahead with two runs in the bottom of the inning off losing pitcher Mike Rose (0-1). The Sooners then put the game out of reach by plating seven runs in the fourth with six hits, two walks, an error and a passed ball. Oklahoma added two more runs in the fifth on Haggard's shot and four more in the eighth.

Other offensive stars in the game for the Sooners included second baseman Zach Lekse (3-for-4, two runs scored, two RBIs) and Bajenaru (2-for-4, three runs scored, two RBIs). For Oral Roberts, leftfielder Eric Vandeventer went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Oklahoma travels to face Texas Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.
