NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team, ranked 23rd in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, opens its spring season this Saturday and Sunday at the Mountain View Collegiate. In its second year, the Collegiate will be hosted by Colorado and Colorado State and will be held in Tucson, Ariz. The Mountain View Golf Course, which plays to a par 72, will serve as the sight of the event.
"I think the weather in Tucson will help, usually the winds there are light," said OU Head Coach Carol Ludvigson. "We've been fighting the wind here for the last couple of months, so this tournament will be good for us. I think the conditions will be scorable and will give us a chance to gauge where we are. Right now, because of the weather, our greens are fast and hard so a lot of times you aren't rewarded for a good shot."
Along with Oklahoma, Colorado and Colorado State, the field is comprised of Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Wichita State, Nevada-Reno, Missouri and International Pacific College (Brisbane Queensland, Australia).
"We're going to have a different lineup," said Ludvigson. "It's interesting because there wasn't much difference between positions during qualifying. This tournament will be a good one to start off with because it's competitive, but they've only got 12 teams. Seven of those are in our district, so it will be a good test."
Tee times for the first round are slated for 11 a.m. (MST), while the final round is set for 7:30 a.m. (MST) off tees one through 10.
