Men's Gymnast Furney Advances To Winter Cup Final

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - University of Oklahoma freshman men's gymnast Daniel Furney has advanced to the all-around finals of the 2000 Winter Cup Challenge by placing 13th in the preliminary round with a score of 51.80.

Fellow freshman Shannon Carrion just missed the 36-man cutoff by placing 43rd. Carrion's score of 48.40 was just seven-tenths off 36th place.

The Winter Cup is a qualifying tournament for the U.S. men's national team.

Furney is currently ranked fourth nationally in men's collegiate gymnastics in the all-around and is ranked 11th on the horizontal bar and 17th on the parallel bars.

This season Furney has finished first twice in the all-around and once each the horizontal bar and still rings.
