Thirteen members of the University of Oklahoma football team have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced. Eleven of those student-athletes earned first-team honors.

The first-team list includes seniors Darryl Bright, Ryan Fisher, Chris Hammons and Scott Kempenich, juniors Nate Hybl, Matthew Mayhew and Ben Panter and sophomores Kory Klein, Matthew McCoy, Josh Smith and Michael Thompson.

Senior Reese Travis and sophomore Quentin Griffith were second-team Academic All-Big 12 picks.

Kempenich, one of five players in the Big 12 to earn a 4.0 GPA, was chosen for the Academic All-Big 12 team for the third consecutive year. Earlier this month, Kempenich was selected to the 2000 Verizon All-Academic District VI football first team.

Bright also earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors for the third straight year.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the first-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, while the second team is comprised of those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher, either cumulative or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
