CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Oklahoma linebacker Torrance Marshall was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Football Writers Association of America.
Marshall, a senior, collected 12 tackles, including eight unassisted, and had three tackles for -19 yards. He also had one pass deflection and two sacks for 17 yards in losses while helping the Sooners' defense shut out the Huskers for the final three quarters in a 31-14 Oklahoma victory last Saturday. Oklahoma limited Nebraska to its fewest points since a 19-0 loss at Arizona State in 1996.
The Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week is selected by a panel of writers from the FWAA. The FWAA also names the best defensive player in college football at the end of the season. The recipient receives the Bronko Nagurski Trophy presented by Mike Fox and the foxcompanies.net at a banquet hosted by the Charlotte Touchdown Club on Dec. 4 in Charlotte.
