  • Check out this week's question!

I have lived most my life deep in "Husker Country" rooting for the Sooners, so the OU-NU matchup determined if I would hear about the NU win for a whole year or if it would quiet the Husker fans and I could live in peace for a year. My favorite moment had to be in '86 when Keith Jackson capped a Sooner fourth-quarter comeback with an incredible catch over trash-talking NU linebacker Broderick Thomas to set up the winning field goal and send OU to the Orange Bowl. Memorial Stadium in Lincoln (as was the entire state) became eerily silent.

Keith Jackson's reverse in OU's victory over Nebraska in 1985. The temperature may have been below freezing, but OU fans thought it was a "glorious" day!!!!

1987 - OU had been #1, Nebraska #2 until the week before the game. The week before, OU barely beat Mizzou and the pollsters flip-flopped OU to #2 and Nebraska to #1. Steve Taylor, the Nebraska quarterback, made comments in the paper to the effect that OU was not in Nebraska's league or up to their caliber. Well - the biggest moment of the 1987 game came as follows: The announcers had just made a comment on how Nebraska had recruited speedier players on the corners to match up better with OU. VERY NEXT PLAY...option pitch to Patrick Collins. Sixty-five yards later, OU had a lead that would not be relinquished that day...

I grew up in Shawnee, Okla., during the Bud Wilkinson years, and have now lived in Nebraska for the past 35 years, through the Devaney and Osborne years. I still stand and place my hand over my heart when BOOMER SOONER or OKLAHOMA plays. There are just too many great memories in those decades to select one. I'd have to say this wonderfully enthusiastic, intelligent, and talented team of 2000 stands with the best of my memories already, and Saturday's win isn't even recorded yet! YOU MAKE ME PROUD, GUYS!

I started supporting the Sooners in the late 1960s while overseas in Germany. Every chance I got to watch OU play on Armed Forces Television was a real treat. My family and I moved to Oklahoma this past April. I would have to say that since I now "Proudly" claim Oklahoma as my home, this up-and-coming OU/Nebraska clash will be my most memorable. We ARE going to win!!!! GO SOONERS, BEAT NEBRASKA!!!!!!

1973: OU 27 - NU 0. The only time Nebraska crossed the 50-yard line was on a pass play and when OU tackled the receiver he fumbled the ball and OU recovered it. Nebraska never snapped the ball on OU's side of the field.

That is easy! Keith Jackson running an 88-yard reverse in 1985. What a pretty call, Jackson around right end for a touchdown!

The 1985 Oklahoma-Nebraska game. I honestly will never forget seeing what looked like a normal option left and then all of the sudden here comes Keith Jackson turning the corner heading down the boundary, right at me and my cousin. Another favorite memory is hearing a disgruntled Nebraska fan leaving a restroom in the south endzone stands as we were wrapping up the 1990 game (OU 45, Nebraska 10). He said, "I drove 400 miles to watch this?!?!"

This might sound crazy, but my best memory was actually an OU loss. The 1994 game was the only OU vs. Nebraska game I have attended. We were in the funk of Gary Gibbs' last season and we were heavy underdogs. But the Sooners would not go down without a fight, putting on a defensive show, punishing the Huskers all day long. When the game was over, we had lost 13-3, but I was so proud of the fight and intensity that the defense showed. Of course this year the score will be much better! Go Sooners!!!

The year was 1971 and we had followed Oklahoma Football since the 1940s. My husband, son, daughter and myself attended that game. It was chilly and damp but we didn't care as we loved our Sooners. When the final score was 35-31 and our Sooners lost in the last minutes, I sat in the stands and balled like a baby. We are so proud that the Sooners are back on top and what a year this has been so far. Thank you for some wonderful memories. Good luck Saturday and for the rest of the season.

The goal-line stand in the 1984 game that helped preserve a 17-7 win. That goal-line stand led to the season-ending game against OSU and yet another Sooner Orange Bowl.

My favorite OU/Nebraska game was when I was in Lincoln when Buster Rhymes ran along the sideline at the last second to beat those Cornhuskers! You should have heard the silence. Before the game, there was a bar near the stadium that people were calling us all sorts of names. Well, after the game I sure wanted to go back to that bar, but my friends wouldn't let me! That was a great game!!! I also remember ALL of those games during Thanksgiving Day when my mom REFUSED to cook. I was very young at that time, but now I'm just like her!"

My favorite memory would have to be the 1971 Game of the Century. It was a game that more than lived up to the hype. Joe Wylie getting clipped on Johnny Rogers punt return, the tremendous desire, effort, and determination shown by Jack Mildren, Jon Harrison catching everything in sight (Switzer said later they should of thrown the ball to him more). From start to finish it was probably the greatest college game ever. Of course there were highlights for Nebraska fans, too, especially winning the game. But Rich Glover, Jeff Kinney and Jerry Taggee will be remembered by OU fans forever as destroying our dream. What a game that was. I still remember the heartbreak of losing and have not felt that bad over a football game since.

The year was 1976, and it was my freshman year at Oklahoma. I was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma, playing the saxophone. That was the year that it was in the teens to single-digit temperatures at Lincoln. The game was fantastic all with the flea-flickers and the last-minute touchdown to win the game. The band played constantly throughout the game and I ended up with a split upper lip from the cold weather. To this day when it starts getting cold and my lip starts to hurt, it only brings back memories of a great victory on their home turf. After the game on our trip back home the caravan of buses carrying the Pride and cheerleaders back to Norman were met at the Kansas / Oklahoma border by the state highway patrol and given an escort all the way back to Norman.

Jamelle Holieway to Keith Jackson in Lincoln. Keith wrestles the ball away from the Husker defensive back for a TD to close the gap on Nebraska. Then with time running down, Holieway completes a pass to Jackson as he tiptoes down the sideline. I still don't see how he made the catch. Sets up the game-winning field by Lashar to defeat the Huskers. It still gives me goosebumps.

My favorite OU/Nebraska memory is of the 1986 game in Lincoln. My father played for OU in the 1960s and his passion bled over to my brother and I. The 1986 game sticks out because both teams were so good and so evenly matched. Even as a child in middle school, there was no mistaking the excitement. I remember eating nachos in my living room and knowing that somehow, someway, Sooner Magic would pull it out. Keith Jackson with the catch and tiptoeing down the sideline, Lashar's kick and the look of helplessness on the Nebraska players' and fans' faces only made the victory sweeter.

My parents were married on Nebraska-Oklahoma weekend in 1979, and my dad still talks about the game. He remembers the score, watching the game while getting dressed and waiting. I think he remembers the game more than his wedding.

The year: 1987. The game: OU vs. NU in Lincoln. The rankings: OU #2, NU #1. The final score: OU 17, NU 7. BOOMER SOONER!!
