Sooners Finish Strong In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - For the second-straight tournament, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team closed out action with a final-round 298 as they moved from 12th to 10th place at the 21st annual Jones Intercable Dick McGuire Invitational today in Albuquerque, N.M. Behind a total 924 strokes (+48), OU finished 44 behind title winner Arizona, which outdistanced the field by 16 on the par-73 New Mexico Championship Golf Course.

Sophomore Wendy Martin fired a closing round of 71 (-2) to erase six strokes off of her previous season best and led the Sooners as tied for 10th place with a score of 224. After compiling a two-day score of 152, senior Isabelle Blais added 75 strokes today to the total (227 overall) to finish the tournament in a tie for 25th. Sophomore Jennifer Tannehill shot a 77 (+4) to tie for 60th alongside teammate Betsy Berry who finished strongly with the best score of her three days, 76 (+3). After withdrawing from the tournament on Thursday, sophomore Jennifer James got back on track as she tied her career-best single-round total of 76, which she shot on four separate occasions last season.

OU returns to the links Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11-12, as the squad crosses the Red River for the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
