LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Oklahoma womens golf team began its 15th season under the direction of Head Coach Carol Ludvigson Monday at the Big 12 Fall Preview in Lincoln, Neb. Following todays first two rounds of competition, the Sooners are in third place with a combined score of 618, 17 strokes off of the mark of 601 set by host Nebraska and six strokes behind second-place Oklahoma State.

Overall the day was mediocre, said Ludvigson. We got off to a bad start during our first round, but we hung in there and finished up well. Then we came back during the second round and ended up with a 304 which the team views as mediocre. When you look at a score of 304 and view it as that, you know you have something to be excited about. It was windy today, I think the kids had a tough time with that. But they kept good attitudes and we are excited about getting out there tomorrow.

Senior Isabelle Blais wasted no time in establishing herself as one of the leagues premier golfers as she combined scores of 75 in the morning session along with a 74 afternoon total to finish with a 149, tying her for second place. With 23 pars to this point in the tournament, Blais is one behind Oklahoma States Maria Boden in number of pars collected. Blais returns to headline this seasons starting lineup after taking a season off to work on her game. She finished tied for 36th in the 1998 U.S. Open.

Other Sooners in the top 20 after two rounds are sophomores Jennifer Tannehill and Wendy Martin. Tannehill posted a two-round total of 153 (79-74) and stands in a four-way tie for ninth. Martin is tied for 19th with a score of 156 (78-78). Tannehills afternoon round of 74 tied her career-best score which came at last years Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman.

Rounding out the OU scorecard were sophomore Jennifer James and freshman Allison Johnson. James, who has started in every tournament of her collegiate career, continued to contribute as she tallied 160 strokes (82-78) to finish the day in a tie for 35th. A two-time Texas state title winner, Johnson made her collegiate debut with rounds of 83 and 81 and stands in a tie for 49th place. The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament is set to get underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at The Country Club of Lincoln.
