Sooners Ready to Tee Off 15th Season Under Ludvigson

BIG 12 PREVIEW
The University of Oklahoma women's golf team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., to begin the 1999 fall season on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 13-14 as The Country Club of Lincoln hosts the fourth annual Big 12 Preview. Texas and Oklahoma State enter the 54-hole tournament, which is part of the Rolex Collegiate Tour, as the only two top-25 teams in the conference. The Longhorns are ranked eighth while the Cowboys are ranked 12th.
"I'm excited for the younger kids on the team," said head coach Carol Ludvigson. "This is a chance for them to get some collegiate experience. This level is a different arena than they have been in and this tournament should help build their confidence. We think we are a team to beat this year, whereas last year we really had no idea"
The course measures 6,004 yards and plays to a par of 72. Two rounds are scheduled for Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday's final round is set to get underway at 8:30 a.m. as well.
"This course is tighter than what we are used to, plus the greens are smaller than what we see here," said Ludvigson. "The most important thing is to be in play off the tee box. I think the greens will play slower than they do here, which is important because you would rather go from fast to slow instead of slow to fast."
Isabelle Blais returns as the team's leader after opting to redshirt last season in order to work on her game following an appearance in the 1998 U.S. Open.
"From one to 10, this is the best team I've ever had," said Ludvigson. "The work ethics and mental attitudes are both strong. This is Isabelle's team, and with the girls behind her everyone is elevating their performance because no one wants to be the weak link. They are pushing each other and they all seem to have the competitive attitude."
LOOKING BACK
Although this year's Big 12 Preview will be the first ever in Lincoln, Neb., the tournament itself is in its fourth season. It was at last year meet that the Sooners posted their highest finish at the event when they recorded a three-round 909 to place fourth. Then-sophomore Kellie Jamison had the best tournament of her career as she tied for 10th by posting a total of 230.
A disappointing final round of 331 dropped the 1997 Sooner squad to seventh as they finished with 955 strokes. Isabelle Blais followed her opening-round 74 with rounds of 77 and 81 and finished tied for 11th.
The 1996 squad placed 10th in College Station, Texas. Blais' total of 231 led the team and tied her for 11th.

Qualified for the 1998 U.S. Open where she posted a score of 301 to tie for 36th Redshirted last year.
