Norman, Okla. - With the beginning of fall football practices one week away, the University of Oklahoma announced this afternoon that season ticket sales for the 1999 campaign are the highest in six years. Currently, Sooner fans have purchased 44,327 season tickets and basically assured OU a season ticket base of over 50,000 for the first time since 1992.
"I think this a direct reflection on Bob Stoops and his coaching staff," said Sooner Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione. "They have worked hard throughout the spring and summer to present the changes in the program to our fans and generate a great deal of excitement."
The Oklahoma Athletic Ticket Office breaks sales into six different categories: Donors, Faculty/Staff, General Public, Students, Lettermen and Family Plan. Of those categories, all show an increase in sales except for student sales which are expected to at least match last year's figures.
Season tickets will continue to be sold at the ticket office through the season opener against Indiana State on Sept. 11. Tickets can be purchased by calling (405) 325-2424 or (800) 456-4668.
1998 Sales (As of Aug. 14) 1999 Sales (As of July 30)

In a related ticket item, OU announced that the tickets allotted to the Sooners' Oct. 2 game at Notre Dame have been completely allocated. According to Castiglione, all season ticket holders (Priority, Public and Sooner Saver) were granted the opportunity to request Notre Dame tickets on their renewal applications, but the ticket office received more than twice as many requests from season ticket holders alone as it had tickets.
Accordingly, every person in the priority seat program who requested Notre Dame tickets on their renewal application was allowed to purchase at least two. OU's very long-term season ticket holders not in the priority seat program who requested Notre Dame tickets on their renewal application were allowed to purchase two. The ticket office was unable to accommodate all other requests from season ticket holders.
Castiglione added that OU students who purchased a season ticket during the spring sale were also provided an opportunity to purchase a Notre Dame ticket. All such requests were satisfied. However, none of the several thousand inquiries from non-season ticket holders could be honored due to the extremely high demand.
