Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team will add three new faces for the new millennium as OU interim head coach Mark Williams announced the signing of Josh Landis, Daniel Furney and Quinn Rowell.

Landis, a Norman, Okla., native who attended Norman North High School, trained at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy under Williams. Landis, a member of the 1998-99 USA Junior National Team, placed seventh in the all-around competition at the 1998 U.S. National Championships. He also placed second on the pommel horse at the 1996 and 1997 Junior National Championships. Landis has been a Region III all-around team member since 1994.

"I expect that Josh will make a tremendous contribution to the team," said Williams. "After coaching him for the past five years, I know his strength as a gymnast will complement the team. Having been a member of the USA Junior National Team, I expect him to bring a great amount of gymnastics experience to our program."

Furney is from Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas. Furney, who trained at Alamo Gymnastics Center under Yuejin Sun, has previously trained at a camp in Nice, France. He has competed on the Junior National Team for five years (1993-96 and 1998). He was a junior national champion on the vault in 1996 and 1998 and has been bestowed the Gymnastics Association of Texas Honor Award four times (1994-96 and 1998). Furney was also recruited by Nebraska, Penn State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan.

"Daniel is also a former USA Junior National Team member," said Williams. "We expect him to contribute with his international experience as he continues forward and competes with the Senior National Team, as well as with the Sooners."

Rowell, from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas, also trained under Sun at Alamo Gymnastics Center. Rowell was the Louisiana state champion in 1990, 1993 and 1995 and was regional champion in 1992. Rowell, who was injured during the 1998 season, was a regional team member in 1994, 1996 and 1997.

"I have high expectations for Quinn to be an integral member of our gymnastics team," said Williams. "We hope that some of his strong events, as well as leadership ability, will help round out our team."
