Sycamores Complete Sooners Schedule

Norman, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced this morning that Indiana State University will replace Arkansas State University as the Sooners 1999 season opener in football. The game will be played inside OU's Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 11 and begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Sooners were put in the position of finding a replacement game after officials at Arkansas State notified OU that they couldn't meet their contractual obligations because they discovered a previously signed contract for a game with Mississippi on Sept. 11. Officials at both schools worked on finding a solution until Castiglione found a replacement with Indiana State.

Indiana State is a NCAA Division I-AA football program which posted a 5-6 record a year ago under first-year head coach Tim McGuire. The Sycamores, who will begin the season at Iowa State on Sept. 4, return a total of 18 starters from last season, including the entire offensive unit. On defense, ISU returns seven starters, including 1998 preseason Division I-AA All-America cornerback DeJuan Alfonzo.

Indiana State will be the first of five home games for the Sooners next season. OU will also host Baylor (Sept. 18), Texas A&M (Oct. 23), Missouri (Nov. 6) and Oklahoma State (Nov.27). Here is the entire 1999 Oklahoma schedule with tentative kickoff times and ticket prices.
