The National Football League initiated its first player draft in 1936. Since that time the University of Oklahoma football program has sent more than 300 players into the NFL, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers as professionals.
Since 1988, OU has had 45 players selected including six in 1996. This list contains players who were either drafted by pro teams or signed on as free agents since the draft's inception in 1936.

Oklahoma defensive end Cedric Jones was the Sooners' first player to be chosen among the top five in the NFL draft since defensive back Ricky Dixon was picked fifth by the Bengals in 1988. Here is a list of the Sooners' all-time top-five picks.
