NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma starter Jared Hoerman struck out a career-high nine in his second complete game of the season and four Sooners drove in at least two runs as 15th-ranked OU completed its first three-game sweep of Big 12 Conference rival Texas with a 10-2 win Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The win was the Sooners fourth straight and sixth in their last seven games and guaranteed Oklahoma no less than a No. 5 seed at the Big 12 Tournament May 14-17 at Oklahoma Citys Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark. Texas ended its season having dropped six of its last eight.
Richard Park led Oklahoma (38-16, 17-11 Big 12) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to finish the series 7-for-12 with eight RBIs and five runs scored. Corey Hart and Jos Montenegro drove in two runs apiece while Justin Elsey added three more RBIs.
Texas (23-31-1, 11-18) managed just seven hits against Hoerman (6-4), who became the first Sooner pitcher since Mark Redman to record two complete games in a season. Hoerman walked just two Longhorn batters en route to his first win in his last three decisions. Shawn Schumacher had UTs only multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
The Sooners rocked UT pitching for 10 runs on 12 hits, scoring four runs each in the fifth and seventh innings. Longhorn starter Rad Weaver (3-4) allowed six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings and took the loss.
In addition to Parks three hits, Derek Wathan, Hart and Elsey added two hits each. Casey Bookout extended his career-best hitting streak to 16 games with a double to lead off the eighth in his final at-bat.
Texas Tech clinched the No. 3 seed in the conference tourney with its win over Kansas State Sunday. Oklahoma, ranked No. 15 in the ESPN/USA Today Baseball Weekly coaches poll, will be seeded no higher than fourth at the Big 12 Tournament.
