Norman, Okla. - Proof that things are changing within the OU football program is now coming from the television networks. Two of the first three games of the 1999 season have changed kickoff times due to television coverage.
"There's no question that TV adds to the excitement of the game," said OU head football coach Bob Stoops. "I'm glad to see that things like this are starting to happen for us already. We tell our players when we recruit them, that they'll have the opportunity to grow as a football player as the nation watches on TV. This is also great for our fans that don't have the opportunity to travel with us, or can't be in the stands at Memorial Stadium."
The first game to change is OU's home contest with Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 18. Televised by the Big 12 Conference syndicated package (check local listings), the game will begin at 11:30 a.m. It was originally set to kick off at 6:30 p.m.
Oklahoma will be seen on national television when the Sooners play at Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 25. Fox Sports has decided to carry the game and asked to move the starting time to 2:30 p.m. (CST) from it's original 6 p.m. kickoff time.
Two other games currently slated for TV are the Oct. 2 game at Notre Dame (NBC) at 12:30 p.m. central time and the Nov. 27 home game against Oklahoma State (Fox Sports Net) at 2 p.m.
