NORMAN, Oklahoma - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team was rewarded on its work in the classroom on Thursday. Four Sooner were named to the 1999 Women's Golf Academic All-Big 12 Team. The list includes first teamers Betsy Berry (freshman), Jennifer James (freshman) and Leslie Elliott (senior). Freshman Jennifer Tannehill was an honorable mention selection. Berry received special recognition for having a 4.0 grade point average. There were only four women's and two men's golfers out of the conference to receive this honor.
The athletes were nominated by the directors of student-athlete support services and the athletic media relations directors. Members of the all-academic teams have posted at least a 3.0 grade point average either cumulative or the previous two academic semesters and are regulars, i.e. letterwinners, on their respective teams. First team honorees are regulars who have at least a 3.2 grade point average, while those student-athletes with grade point averages between 3.0 and 3.19 are listed as honorable mention. The Sooners will find out on Monday whether or not they qualified for the NCAA West Regional to be held at Pine Forest Country Club, May 6-8, in Houston, Texas
