NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team will add three new faces to its program as OU Interim Head Coach Mark Williams announced the signing of Shannon Carrion, Heath Muller and Jock Stevens today.
Carrrion, a Tallahassee, Fla., native, will join this year's team at the beginning of next semester to compete as a freshman. Carrion has trained at Gym Force Gym in Tallahassee under Jim Hisen. He was a member of the 1997, 1998 and 1999 USA Junior National Team. He placed third in the all-around competition at the 1999 Junior National Championships and ninth in the same event at the 1999 USA Gymnastics Championships. He also competed at the 1999 International Tri Meet (USA, China and Romania).
Mueller, a senior at Norman North High School, is from Yukon, Okla. He trains at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy under Williams. Mueller received a bronze medal for his performance on the horizontal bar at the 1998 Junior National Championships and placed eighth in the all-around at the 1999 USA Gymnastics Championships. Muller was also a member of the 1995 USA Junior National Team.
Stevens also trains under Williams at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy. The Moore, Okla., native is a senior at Moore High School. He is the top-ranked junior gymnast in the nation eligible for recruiting. Stevens was the horizontal bar champion at the 1999 USA Gymnastics Championships and the floor exercise champion at the 1999 Junior National Championships. He also placed third in the all-around at the 1999 Junior Nationals and competed at the 1999 International Tri Meet. Stevens was the floor exercise national champion at both the 1998 USA Gymnastics Championships and the 1998 Junior National Championships. He was runner up on the vault at the same events.
