LAS CRUCES, N.M. -The University of Oklahoma women's golf team concluded its fall season today by placing fifth at the Roadrunner Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. The Sooners added a final day score of 296 to first and second rounds of 304 and 311, respectively, to move into a tie for fifth with Texas Tech at 911 (+47). Today's team total bettered OU's season single round best, previously 298, which it produced during the closing rounds at the Big 12 Fall Preview and the Dick McGuire Invitational. The finish marked the sixth consecutive tournament the Sooners have placed within the top 10. As a team, Oklahoma led the 21-school field in birdies with 37 and finished second behind tournament winner Oklahoma State (885, +21) in par-three scoring, averaging 3.05 strokes.
Freshman Allison Johnson collected eight birdies and paced the team with a fifth-place showing by shooting a seven-over-par 223. Johnson led all golfers in par-three scoring at 2.75 (-3). Sophomore Jennifer James led the tournament in birdies with 13 en route to a 225 (+9), which tied for 13th. James' score was the lowest of her OU career. Sophomore Wendy Martin used a final-day 71 to move from 56th into a tie for 32nd (231, +15). The third-round 71 was Martin's second in as many tournaments. Senior Isabelle Blais strung together rounds of 77, 80 and 75 to finish in a tie for 36th. Despite the showing, Blais continues to lead the team in season stroke average at 75.75. Competing as an individual, junior Kellie Jamison tied for 66th with a three-day total of 241 (+25). Jamison, who closed out the tournament with a final-day 75, bettered her previous season best single round of 77.
OU's spring season will begin Friday, Feb. 18, in Tucson, Ariz., at the Colorado/Colorado State Invitational.
