Cam Sykora
  • Title:
    Head Assistant Coach

Cam Sykora enters his fourth year with the Sooners in 2026-27, having joined the program as an assistant coach on June 6, 2023.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Sykora continued to play a key role in the development of Oklahoma’s lower weights, helping guide Conrad Hendriksen (125), Carter Schmidt (133) and Tyler Wells (141) to career-best seasons and NCAA Championship appearances. Wells compiled a 19-11 record, climbed as high as No. 18 in the InterMat rankings and earned six wins over ranked opponents while qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. Hendriksen and Schmidt also secured NCAA berths after placing fifth and seventh, respectively, at the conference tournament.

In 2024-25, Sykora was instrumental in the development of Oklahoma’s lightweights, particularly Antonio Lorenzo (125), who qualified for his third NCAA Championship following a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. Lorenzo climbed as high as No. 23 in the InterMat rankings and recorded five wins over ranked opponents

In 2023-24, Sykora played a key role in guiding three Sooners — Jace Koelzer (133), Willie McDougald (141) and Jared Hill (157) — to the NCAA Championships while also helping the program secure its highest NCAA finish (23rd) in eight seasons.

Prior to arriving in Norman, Sykora spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach on the North Dakota State University wrestling staff. The four-time NCAA qualifier joined the Bison coaching staff ahead of the 2021-22 season, after wrapping up his wrestling career with the Bison, and coached through the 2022-23 season under head coach Roger Kish.

In his time on staff, Sykora worked across several weight classes and helped in the development of two NCAA All-Americans, Michael Caliendo and Jared Franek, and nine different NCAA qualifiers.

Originally from Wheaton, Minn., Sykora qualified for the NCAA tournament at 133 pounds from 2017 to 2020. He was a three-time Big 12 Conference placewinner and North Dakota State’s first Big 12 champion in 2020.

Sykora compiled an 87-34 record in four seasons with the Bison including 33 wins by technical fall, 14 major decisions and eight pins. He was 17-4 in his senior year, ranked No. 9 in the final NCAA RPI, and was a National Wrestling Coaches Association All-America second team selection.

The fifth wrestler in Minnesota high school history to win five state championships, Sykora went 37-0 and 33-0 in his final two seasons at Wheaton High School while setting school career and season win records. He graduated from NDSU in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in university studies.
