University of Oklahoma softball head coach Patty Gasso announced in November 2020 the addition of Erin Arevalo (ar-uh-VAH-lo) to the coaching staff as volunteer assistant.
Arevalo joins the Sooners following three years at Indiana State where she served as pitching coach from 2018-20. Prior to joining the Indiana State staff, Arevalo worked at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., for two seasons as an assistant coach from 2016-17.
At Samford, she helped the program to its first SoCon regular season championship and SoCon tournament title in 2016. The pitching staff posted nine shutout victories and a .250 opponent batting average under her leadership to go with a conference-best team ERA of 3.22.
During her time at Indiana State, Arevalo helped pitcher Della Gher to the ninth-lowest opponent batting average for a season in program history (.252 in 2018), along with the most team saves in school history (13 in 2018). Additionally, Arevalo helped Gher to the No. 1 spot in the ISU record books for career saves with 14.
The Lathrop, Calif., native was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Georgia where she pitched under head coach Lu Harris-Champer from 2009-12. She was a member of Bulldogs squads that made Women’s College World Series appearances in 2009 and 2010.
In her sophomore season in 2010, Arevalo led UGA to a 50-13 record and the WCWS semifinals, registering 20 wins, 14 complete games and 171 strikeouts.
As a senior in 2012 Arevalo registered 28 complete games, a 27-9 record and 1.43 ERA to go with 270 strikeouts against 51 walks. She was named an NFCA third-team All-American and a second-team all-region and All-SEC honoree.
She departed UGA ranked fourth all-time with 476 strikeouts and was just the fourth pitcher for the Bulldogs to record over 200 strikeouts in a season.
Arevalo earned her degree in psychology from UGA in 2012 and played two seasons of professional softball in the NPF with the Akron Racers from 2012-13 prior to entering the coaching ranks.
