    Associate Head Coach
K.T. Turner was named University of Oklahoma associate head men’s basketball coach on April 16, 2021.

Formerly the associate head coach at Texas and SMU, Turner brings 16 years of collegiate coaching experience to head coach Porter Moser’s staff.

In Turner’s lone season at Texas in 2020-21, the Longhorns went 19-8, won the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and were awarded an NCAA Tournament No. 3 seed. He also helped Kai Jones to Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year honors. With Turner’s assistance, Texas led the Big 12 in field goal percentage defense (.408), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.317), rebounding (38.4 per game) and defensive rebounding (27.6 per game).

Before arriving in Austin, Turner spent seven years on the sidelines at SMU, including four as the associate head coach. With Turner on staff, the Mustangs compiled an overall record of 169-71 (.693), won a pair of American Athletic Conference regular season titles and two AAC Tournament championships. The Mustangs appeared in the AP Top 25 in four of his seven years, rising to No. 8 in 2015-16. He coached under Hall-of-Famer Larry Brown for three seasons in Dallas and then alongside current SMU coach Tim Jankovich for the final three.
Turner saw 15 Mustangs earn all-conference honors – the most of any AAC team during that stretch. He also helped develop three NBA Draft picks (Semi Ojeleye, Sterling Brown, Shake Milton) and three conference players of the year (Nic Moore in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and Ojeleye in 2016-17).

Before he arrived in Dallas, Turner was an assistant at Wichita State in 2012-13, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 2011-12, Hutchinson Community College (2009-11), Cowley College (2008-09), Redlands Community College (2006-07) and Panola Community College (2005-06).

As a Wichita State assistant in the 2012-13 season, Turner helped the Shockers post a 30-9 record and earn a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They defeated Pittsburgh in the first round and No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga in the second to reach the Sweet 16 before knocking off La Salle and Ohio State to advance to the Final Four.

The Manhattan, Kan., native returns to the state of Oklahoma, where he shined as a player at Oklahoma City University, guiding the Stars to the 2002 Sooner Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. He transferred to OCU after playing his first two years at Hutchinson Community College under Jankovich and his junior season at UT-Arlington.

Following his collegiate playing career, Turner played professionally for Benneton Treviso in Italy from 2002-05 before becoming a coach.

Turner and his wife, Cassaundra, have three children: Kelis, Kenny and Kendra.
