WHAT WE DO

  • OU Sports Nutrition is committed to inspiring and empowering our athletes to choose nourishing foods to help them win championships on the field and in life
  • Nutrition is a crucial piece and oftentime an overlooked aspect of sport performance. The primary goal of the Sports Nutrition Department is to maximize the impact nutrition can have on athletic performance.

The primary dietitian for each team provides opportunities for one-on-one consults with the focus of meeting a student-athlete’s individualized health and performance goals. Reach out to your team dietitian today to set up a nutrition appointment

Evaluate and monitor training load and intensity in collaboration with Sport Science, analyze dietary intake, assess body composition, and monitor hydration status

As dehydration can lead to decreases in muscular strength and endurance, an increase in fatigue, and/or injury, conducting hydration tests can serve to evaluate and educate student-athletes regarding their hydration levels, facilitating the development of personalized hydration strategies.

We actively participate in all aspects of a student-athlete's recovery process, including offering nutrition education and intervention during periods of injury, ensuring optimal recovery leading to a smooth return to play progression.

  • Voluntary body composition testing is used to assess changes over time. We use a collaborative approach to analyze results of body composition data combined with other data points to develop individualized fueling plans

A multidisciplinary approach is used for education, screening, assessment, treatment, and management of student-athletes with eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors. This collaboration exists between OU Athletic Medicine, team physician, Psychological Resources for OU Student-Athletes (PROS), Sports Nutrition, and, when needed, Strength & Conditioning, coaching staffs, academic advising, administration, and other entities

A food-first approach is necessary for building a solid foundation for improving performance. We educate our student-athletes on supplement implementation and carefully review all dietary supplements to guarantee 

We believe nutrition education is foundational for athletes for not only improving performance nutrition-related habits, but also for developing life skills beyond athletics. Education is provided through team talks, performance fueling strategies, cooking demos, and grocery store tours.
