BOOMER & SOONER

Boomer and Sooner are the official costumed mascots of the University of Oklahoma and serve as two of the most recognizable ambassadors of OU Athletics. Inspired by the tradition of the Sooner Schooner and its ponies, the mascots bring energy, excitement, and school spirit to athletic events, campus traditions, community appearances, and charitable initiatives throughout the year.

While Boomer and Sooner are best known for entertaining fans on game days, they also represent the University at schools, hospitals, alumni events, and community functions across the state and beyond. Their mission is to create memorable experiences for Sooner fans of all ages while promoting the values and traditions of the University of Oklahoma.

Boomer and Sooner made their official debut at the Big Red Rally on August 26, 2005. Their creation was the result of a collaborative effort between OU Athletics, student leaders, and the University community. After several years of research and development, a student-led initiative established the need for a unified mascot program that could represent the University at athletic events, charitable functions, and community outreach opportunities. The result was the introduction of Boomer and Sooner, who have since become beloved symbols of Oklahoma Spirit.

TOP DAUG

Top Daug is a historic mascot deeply connected to the tradition and success of Oklahoma Basketball. Originally introduced during the mid-1980s, Top Daug became a fan favorite during an era that saw the Sooners rise to national prominence under legendary head coach Billy Tubbs.

Known for his energetic personality and ability to engage the crowd, Top Daug was a fixture at basketball games throughout some of the most successful seasons in program history, including multiple Final Four appearances and conference championships.

Today, Top Daug is not a full-time member of the OU Mascot Program and does not make regular appearances at athletic events. Instead, he is reserved for select throwback games, special celebrations, milestone anniversaries, and other occasions that honor the rich history and traditions of Oklahoma Basketball.

These rare appearances allow Top Daug to serve as a connection between generations of Sooner fans while preserving the nostalgia and significance of one of the most iconic figures in OU Basketball history.
