OU Men's Basketball History & Tradition

Blake Griffin Ceremony

Regarded as the best player in Oklahoma basketball history, Wayman Tisdale became the first OU athlete in any sport to have his or her jersey honored (1997). Four other Sooners have since been honored, as Alvan Adams (1998), Mookie Blaylock (2001) , Stacey King (2008) and Blake Griffin (2016) each saw their jerseys raised to the rafters inside Lloyd Noble Center.

• First-ever freshman named to AP's first-team All-America squad
• First player in collegiate history named first-team All-American by AP his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons
• Three-time Big Eight Player of the Year
• Only player to lead Big Eight in scoring three consecutive seasons
• Was OU's leading scorer in 76 of 104 career games
• Scored in double figures in first 83 games and held under 10 points just once in his career
• Guided OU to Big Eight titles in 1983-84 and 1984-85 when team went 70-11 overall and 33-0 at home
• Scored 51 points as a freshman vs. Abilene Christian
• Scored school-record 61 points against Texas-San Antonio (also had 22 rebounds) as a sophomore
• Top rebounder on 1984 U.S. Olympic gold medal team with 6.4 boards over eight games
• Scored a school-record 932 points during 1984-85 season
• Holds OU career records for points (2,661), rebounds (1,048), FGs (1,077), FTs (507) and FT attempts (767)
• Second pick in 1985 NBA Draft by Indiana Pacers
