NORMAN, Okla. - Redshirt freshman Aldwynn Sappleton was one of 51 University of Oklahoma track and field student-athletes to be named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall semester 2001. It marks the second consecutive semester for Sappleton to earn the academic honor roll award.

Over the weekend, Sappleton earned his second All-America certificate as a Sooner by anchoring OU's 1600-meter relay team to a sixth-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships.

To be eligible for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes must earn a 3.0 grade point average or above for the semester.

A total of six Sooner track and field honorees recorded 4.0 grade point averages. They include Andrew Call, university studies; Darren Huchins, math/biology; Erika Helmerich, university studies; Emily Leonard, business; Amanda Luksetich, civil engineering; and Kelli O'Rourke, psychology.

The Sooners completed the indoor season by adding five All-Americans. The men finished tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championships, an improvement of 15 spots over last year. Leslie Dunlap competed for the Sooner women and finished 14th in the pole vault.

OU will open the outdoor season this weekend. The Sooner combined event competitors will travel to the College Station Relays at Texas A&M to compete Thursday and Friday. Most of the rest of the team will head to Miami, Fla., for Saturday's Hurricane Invitational. The team will stay in Florida over spring break to train and will compete in the Florida International Golden Panther Invitational on March 23.
