Sooners Extend Record Academic Streak

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma student-athletes extended their streak of classroom success by posting a 3.11 cumulative GPA during the spring 2019 semester. The GPA is the third-highest in OU Athletics history and marks a school-record 15 straight semesters of surpassing a 3.0 cumulative figure.

Sooner student-athletes have finished each of the previous three semesters with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.10, including a school-record 3.13 during the spring of 2018.

OU's streak of student-athletes posting a GPA of at least 3.0 began in spring 2012. The 3.11 cumulative spring GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of collegiate enrollment through the completion of the spring 2019 term.

"We continue to be impressed by the academic standards our student-athletes have set for themselves," said OU Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione. "The 15 straight semesters of a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA is an incredible streak, and recording at least a 3.10 each of the last three semesters proves that the bar is always being raised. We're grateful to the outstanding work of our academic and coaching staffs for fostering a network of academic support that best prepares our student-athletes for life after graduation."

Fifteen of OU's 19 athletics teams, including all 10 women's squads, own better than a 3.0 cumulative GPA following the spring semester.

While capturing its fourth national title, the women's gymnastics program also excelled in the classroom by producing a team-record 3.60 cumulative GPA, including a 3.74 term GPA during the spring semester. Nine other OU programs possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20: men's cross country — 3.30; women's cross country — 3.44; women's golf — 3.27; men's gymnastics — 3.28; rowing — 3.40; women's soccer — 3.53; women's tennis — 3.27; women's track and field — 3.36; and volleyball — 3.25.

Five additional teams hold a cumulative GPA over 3.0: men's basketball — 3.04; women's basketball — 3.01; softball — 3.16; men's tennis — 3.04; and men's track and field — 3.07.

In addition to the 15th straight semester of a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, here is a look at recent academic accomplishments of OU student-athletes:
