NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma earned a nail-biting, 6-4 victory over Kansas State on Saturday night, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning to take its second win in as many tries against the Wildcats. In the ninth, freshman Jarod McAuliff allowed a walk and a single and hit a batter to load the bases with no outs. However, the freshman from Stillwater, Okla., struck out three consecutive Wildcats, including Pat Maloney, who entered the game as the Big 12's top hitter, to seal the win and foil any Wildcat comeback. The save was the first of McAuliff's Sooner career.

Austin Mix (5-5) earned the win after pitching four innings and allowing just three runs on five hits. Mix struck out three before giving way to Buddy Blair, who allowed one KSU run over two innings and a third. OU cranked out 11 hits and turned a season-high four double plays in the contest. With the win, the Sooners improved to 28-20 on the season (9-10 Big 12), while Kansas State fell to 23-21 (8-11 Big 12).

"I was incredibly impressed with the composure of (Jarod) McAuliff tonight," said Oklahoma head coach Larry Cochell. "For a freshman, for a player of any year, he showed a lot of composure in striking out three men in a row after loading the bases. This was a big win for us since the conference race is so jumbled right now, so we're real happy to pull this one out."

Kansas State struck first as Brett Williams hit a two-run homer, the first of his career, in the second inning off of Mix. OU answered in the bottom of the second as Matt Bose drilled a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall, a solo shot which brought the Sooners within 2-1. Pat Maloney extended KSU's lead back to two when he tripled and brought in a run in the third, making the score 3-1, Wildcats.

Oklahoma went ahead for good with a big third inning, scoring four runs on six hits. Bose drove in his second run of the night with a single down the left field line and then Charlie Frasier belted a three-run home run which hit the scoreboard in left field. The homer was Frasier's eighth of the season and his first since April 6, a 7-6 loss to Nebraska.

OU extended its lead to three in the fourth when Ryan Richardson roped a single to center, bringing Eddie Cornejo home, but KSU's Gabe Luttrell hit a solo homer in the fifth to make it 6-4, Oklahoma.

In the ninth, K-State's Williams walked and advanced to second on a single by Nick Sorensen. McAuliff then hit Brandon Taylor to load the bases. McAuliff then proceeded to slam the door on any Wildcat comeback hopes by striking out Osmar Castillo, Luttrell and Maloney.

Attendance at the game was 1,544 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners will look to complete the series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m. Mark Roberts will make Sunday's start for Oklahoma, after being feared lost for the season after suffering a soft tissue injury to the neck against Texas Tech on May 27. Kansas State last won a series at Norman in 1971 and have not beaten OU at home since May 14, 1993, a span of 17 games. The Oklahoma baseball program will hold Senior Day on Sunday, honoring the seven departing senior members of the squad.
