David Purcey and the Oklahoma baseball team were selected to the NCAA Regional in Wichita. The Sooners will open the Regional against Arkansas on Friday.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball program learned on Monday morning that it will be headed to Wichita, Kan., for the first round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament, to be held from Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2, at Wichita State's Eck Stadium. Selected as the No. 2 seed, Oklahoma (35-25) will square off against Arkansas (31-26) at 3 p.m. on Friday. Also on Friday, top-seeded Wichita State (46-15) will face No. 4 Oral Roberts (46-17) at 7 p.m.

Oklahoma played all three of the teams selected to the Wichita Regional this season, going 3-0 against Oral Roberts, 1-1 versus Arkansas and 0-1 against Wichita State. Both the Shockers (Missouri Valley) and Golden Eagles (Mid-Continent) won their respective conferences, while the Sooners and Razorbacks were at-large selections from the powerful Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences.

"We are excited about this opportunity and we're looking forward to getting to Wichita and playing some good baseball," said Oklahoma head coach Larry Cochell. "This is a good Regional for us in that it's close enough for our fans to travel up, and since we've played all three teams, we know them well. We played at Wichita State a few weeks ago and that will definitely be an advantage for us as we prepare for the Regional."

Oklahoma will face Arkansas at 3 p.m. on Friday and Wichita State will meet Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. The losers of Friday night's games will play on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the winners will play at 3 p.m. Following that contest, the loser of the winner's bracket game will play the winner of the loser's bracket game at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Finally, the regional championship game will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and if necessary, a second game will be played at 6 p.m.

The practice schedule for Thursday is as follows: Wichita State, 10 - 11:15 a.m.; Oklahoma, 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.; Arkansas, 1 - 2:15 p.m.; and Oral Roberts, 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. In addition, the time for Thursday's press conference has not yet been detemined.
