NORMAN, Okla. - A total of 246 student-athletes, including 14 from the University of Oklahoma, were named to the Men's and Women's Track and Field Big 12 All-Academic teams, conference officials announced today.
A total of 12 student-athletes, including OU's Andrew Crabbe, Darren Hutchins, Kelli O'Rourke and Sara Justice, received special recognition for having earned a 4.0 grade point average in at least one of the last two semesters.
First-team honorees earned a 3.20 or better grade point average while second-team honorees had a 3.00-3.19 grade point average.
To be considered for the team, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and have participated in at least 60 percent of their team's competitions. Freshmen and first-year transfer students are not eligible for the award. Seniors who participated at least two years and meet all the criteria except the participation also are eligible.
It is the third time for seniors Alicia Emanuel and Cecil Rose to be named to the teams. It marks the second selection for Justice, O'Rourke and Arianna Wertheim. The remaining honorees are all first-time selections in track and field.
The Sooners will head to Columbia, Mo., Wednesday for the Big 12 Track and Field Championships. Hosted by the University of Missouri, the meet begins Friday and runs through Sunday at the Audrey J. Walton Track/Soccer Complex.
