LAWRENCE, Kan. - OU sophomore Chaundra Allard posted a season-best 129-3 in the javelin for 656 points to finish second in the heptathlon at the Kansas Relays Thursday. Allard's mark was the best in the javelin and she also had the fourth best long jump mark in the competition to finish with 4,721 points. Wichita State's Koya Webb, the leader after day one, won the competition with 4,922 points but Allard made up more than 100 points in the second day's three events.

OU senior Ben Winter finished fourth in the decathlon with 6,522 points. Paul Speer of Wichita State won the competition with 6,819 points. Sooner freshman Dan Strong finished sixth with 5965 and junior Taylor Cates was fifth in the heptathlon with 4,486 points. This marks the first heptathlon competition of the season for Allard and is the first for Cates to complete this season. She was forced to withdraw after the first day of competition at the College Station Relays because of an injury. The marks posted by Winter and Strong were season bests for the pair who had competed in the decathlon at the Golden Panther Invitational in mid March.

Allard and Cates recorded season bests on Wednesday in the shot put and the 200, then had season bests today in the javelin to post heptathlon totals that rank among the top 10 in the Big 12 this season (fifth and sixth) and are the third and fourth best marks all-time in OU school history.

For Winter, his total ranks sixth in the conference and eighth all-time in OU history. His pole vault and 1500-meter run marks in today's competition were season bests while Strong recorded season bests in the 110-meter high hurdles and the pole vault today.

Three Sooner pole vaulters will compete in the Mt. Sac Relays Saturday while the rest of the Sooner team heads to Waco, Texas, for the Michael Johnson/Southwestern Bell Invitational this weekend.
