NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma baseball team fell to No. 9 Texas by a score of 8-2 in the first game of a doubleheader, Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU catcher Ryan Richardson belted two solo home runs on the day, his fifth and sixth of the year and his second multi-home run game of the season. The sophomore from Mesa, Ariz., went deep twice in last Sunday's loss at Nebraska.
Curtis White (0-1), who took the loss in his first start as a Sooner, pitched 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, while walking four. UT's Justin Simmons moved to 10-0 on the season by pitching 7.2 innings and allowing just two runs. Austin Mix pitched admirably in relief of White, going 5.1 innings and giving up just one run on three hits.
Texas loaded the bases in the second inning but managed to plate just one run, which came on a walk by White. The Sooners answered in the bottom of the second, as Ryan Richardson belted his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.
UT added a run in third inning, and after loading the bases once more in the fourth, Jeff Ontiveros drilled a grand slam to put the Longhorns up 7-1. The homer was Ontiveros' second in as many games and the first off of White on the season.
The Longhorns extended their lead to seven with a tally in the fifth, but Richardson's second home run of the day in the seventh brought the score to 8-2.
Saturday's scheduled game between the schools was postponed until today due to heavy rain in the Norman area. The second game of today's doubleheader will begin with an approximate first pitch at 2:30. Jarod McAuliff (1-1, 4.44 ERA) will make the start for Oklahoma.
