NORMAN, Okla. - Jason Stanley, a freshman hurdler from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was named Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week today for his performance in OU's season-opening meet on Dec. 1. Chaytan Hill of Kansas State was named the female Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Stanley tied the school record and met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the 60-meter hurdles in the OU All Comers Meet in December. His time of 6.88 currently is the fourth fastest time in the nation and he is the only freshman listed among the top hurdle times to date.
The announcement today marked the first Big 12 Track and Field athletes of the week for the 2002 season.
The Sooners returned to practice today in anticipation of the pole vaulters' trip to the USATF Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., Friday and Saturday and the OU Classic at the Mosier Indoor in Norman on January 19 for the remainder of the team. Classes resume on the Norman campus next Monday.
