Sept. 27, 2001

The OU men's and women's cross country teams will head back to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend for the Cowboy Jamboree. The women start at 9 a.m. with a 5k run and the men will follow with an 8k race.

The Sooner men will compete against a field that includes host Oklahoma State, Abilene Christian, Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri Southern, Oral Roberts, Southwest Texas State, Wichita State, Southwest Missouri State and the University of Texas-Arlington. The women's competition consists of the same field plus Pittsburgh State and Georgetown.

The Last Time Out

Due to the Big 12's cancellation of all competition the weekend of Sept. 15-16, the Sooners did not participate in the Missouri Southern Stampede. To make up for that missed meet and to get a look at the course for this weekend's meet, the Sooners went to OSU for a two-team dual last Saturday.

OSU swept the team standings but the Sooners had several strong individual performances, including season-best marks in the two-mile run for every woman who competed. Kelli O'Rourke led the team with an 11:44.59 and a sixth-place finish. Jenny Ledford knocked a minute off her previous best in the two-mile with a time of 12:02.13 and Aisha Stringer improved her time by 46 seconds as she finished in 11:56.51.

Senior Brandon Kissack led the men at the meet with a fifth-place finish and a time of 14:41.19 in the three-mile run. Jimmy Buchanan turned in a time of 14:48.91 and Joey McNair clocked in at 14:51.45 for eighth- and ninth-place finishes respectively.

Up Next

The Sooners were to be idle next week before hosting the Big 12 Preview on Oct. 13. That meet on Oct. 13 has been cancelled and another meet will be added.

OU will then host the Big 12 Championship on the Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Course on Oct. 27. The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
