NORMAN, Okla. -
Senior Brandon Kissack ran in his final Big 12 Cross Country Championship and had the best finish of his Sooner career in the sixth annual meet held today at the Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Course.
Kissack covered the 8,000-meter course in 25:15.2 to finish 32nd and lead the Sooner men. OU finished 10th in the meet, a two-spot jump from the 2000 season. The Sooners also closed the gap with those in the middle, finishing just 23 points behind eighth-place Kansas State.
The Sooner women finished 12th overall, led by Aisha Stringer, who finished 66th in the individual standings. For Stringer, a junior, it marked the first time for her to lead OU at the Big 12 Championship. The OU women were without senior Jenny Ledford, who was out with a stress fracture in her foot, and junior Kelli O'Rourke, who did not finish the race.
Colorado swept the team titles and the individual titles. The CU men kept their string of wins in this meet alive at six, having never lost a Big 12 meet. Jorge Torres, who finished second in 1999 and won the title last year, repeated as conference champion. The CU women won their fifth title in six year and Molly Austin won the individual title.
The Sooners will travel to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in Carbondale, Ill., on Nov. 10.
