AUSTIN, Texas — No. 8 Oklahoma dropped the series opener at No. 2 Texas Thursday night by a final of 14-0 in seven innings.
The Longhorns (21-4, 5-2 SEC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and scored multiple runs in four of six innings at the plate en route to the run-rule victory. It was just the second time OU (19-6, 4-3 SEC) has been run-ruled this season.
The loss was OU's second by double digits on the season. Texas' 14 runs were the second-most the Sooners have surrendered this year.
OU starting RHP LJ Mercurius (L, 5-2) took his second loss of the season, giving up a season-high seven runs and 10 hits to go with three walks and one strikeout. OU used five pitchers out of the bullpen with Reid Hensley, Nate Smithburg and Jaden Barfield all registering one strikeout.
At the plate, OU had six hits from six different Sooners.
