OU Scores 20-Plus in Second Straight, Clinches Series vs. Coppin State

February 21, 2026 | Baseball

NORMAN — No. 21 Oklahoma clinched the series vs. Coppin State Saturday with a 24-0 run-rule victory at Kimrey Family Stadium.

Through two games, the Sooners (6-0) have outscored the Eagles (0-3) 46-1 and outhit the opposition 28-5. OU's consecutive games scoring 20-plus marked the first time since 2005 and fourth time in program history the team has scored 20 or more in two straight games.

The Sooners recorded six extra-base hits Saturday, highlighted by home runs from sophomores Drew Dickerson and Myles Davis. It was Dickerson's second in as many games vs. the Eagles, while Davis hit a grand slam for his first round-tripper as a Sooner.

On the mound, junior transfer LJ Mercurius (W, 2-0) got the win in five innings, fanning seven while allowing no runs, one hit and three walks. Redshirt sophomore Nate Smithburg (1.0 IP) struck out a pair in his first action as a Sooner after not seeing the field a season ago due to injury. Smithburg and sophomore Trent Collier (1.0 IP) finished the game for OU with Collier also striking out two.

Ten Sooners registered a hit in the contest with eight batting in at least one run and six recording double-digit RBIs. Davis' team-high six RBIs were the most for any Sooner in the early season and most since Easton Carmichael had six at Missouri last year (4/18/25, G1).
