CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — No. 4 Oklahoma (10-1) expanded its winning streak to nine games with wins in two different styles Thursday, Feb. 19 on a gusty opening day at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Allyssa Parker homered with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and set up a walk-off RBI single from
Gabbie Garcia in a 6-5 eight-inning win against Cal State Fullerton (4-7).
OU pounced on (RV) San Diego State State (8-3) in its night cap, getting two home runs from
Kendall Wells and one each from
Isabela Emerling and
Sydney Barker in a 10-2 five-inning win against the Aztecs.
Due to the late finish of the preceding Auburn vs. UCLA game, OU's first pitch against San Diego State wasn't until 9:50 p.m. PT. The run-rule victory marked Oklahoma's seventh on the season and sixth in seven games.
Sooner hurlers
Audrey Lowry and
Miali Guachino stayed undefeated in the process. Lowry improved to 7-0 and Guachino upped her record to 3-0 with five innings of work, fanning eight.
No. 4 Oklahoma 6, Fullerton 5 (8 inn.)
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas doubled in Garcia for the 1-0 lead in the first, but Cal State Fullerton scored the next four runs to take a 4-1 lead in the third.
OU got runners at first and second with nobody out to start the third inning, but the Titans coaxed a double play to slow down the Sooner momentum. Wells responded with an important two-run home run one batter later, cutting into the deficit.
Emerling tied the game with her fourth home run in six calendar days, tying things at 4-4.
Both teams pitched zeros until consecutive doubles gave CSUF the 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh. Down to the final out, Parker clubbed a game-tying home run to right center.
In extras,
Ailana Agbayani fielded a ground ball and fired home in time to get the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.
Gabbie Garcia walked the Sooners off with victory with a two-out, 3-2, RBI base knock off the wall in left, scoring
Tia Milloy for the win.
