Sooners Remain Unbeaten with Sweep at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team remained unbeaten Saturday afternoon, sweeping Tulsa, 7-0, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The victory marked the third time OU has opened a season 7-0 under head coach Audra Cohen and the fourth time the program has reached the mark since 2000.

Oklahoma continued its dominance in doubles play, extending its perfect spring doubles record to 14-0 while securing the opening point.

On court one, Roisin Gilheany and Evialina Laskevich set the tone with a decisive 6-0 win over Tayla Wilmot and Isabella Basson. Shortly after, Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang clinched the doubles point on court two with a 6-2 victory against Maria Santos and Carolina Alonso.

When play was halted on court three, Tulsa's Lilitha Ndungane and Erin McKenzie held a 5-4 advantage over Laura Brunkel and Gloriana Nahum.

Carrying a 1-0 lead into singles, the Sooners quickly added to their advantage. On court six, Oyinlomo Quadre earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Uta Asakura, followed by Chloé Noël's 6-3, 6-1 victory against Santos at the No. 2 spot.

Laskevich clinched on court one, defeating Basson, 6-2, 6-3, to secure the win for the Sooners.

The remaining courts played on as OU added to the final tally. At the No. 4 spot, Nahum topped Alice Baba, 6-3, 6-3, while Brunkel followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Wilmot on court five. Freshman Edda Mamedova closed singles play with a comeback victory at No. 3, outlasting Alonso, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), [10-4].

UP NEXT

OU will travel to Champaign, Ill., for the ITA National Indoor Championships from Feb. 6-9. The tournament bracket will be released Tuesday.
